Write Your Eulogy. Then Live It.

Write Your Eulogy and Start Living It Today.

Most of us do not spend time to think about how we want to be or live.   At the same time, we don’t want to be at the end of our life, wishing we had lived differently.  We can avoid this by writing our eulogy now, and starting to live in alignment with our eulogy today.

Why wait until the end of your life to discover and live, the life you want to live.  Start now, by discovering the person you want to be and how you want to live.  This discovery process can be a daunting task, without simple, straight forward guidance.  This article is intended to provide you with such guidance.  Let’s jump right in.

First, the eulogy referred to here, is a speech that pays tribute to a deceased person.  Begin by brainstorming, that is, for about five minutes write,  without stopping, a list of words you that best describe (note, grammar and spelling are irrelevant for this exercise, so have fun with it):

  • how you want to be;
  • how you want to live;
  • what you want to do;
  • who and what you want to influence;
  • what you want to create;
  • what impact you want to have on others, etc.

You could actually stop right here, and start being, living, influencing, creating and impacting others, as described in your list.  For those of you who are up for working this further,

  • circle the items on your list that are most important to you;
  • create an outline; and
  • write the eulogy (again, grammar and spelling are not important for this exercise).

Finally, reword the eulogy so that it reads in the present tense, rather past tense.   In other words, the eulogy may reference how the person was in the past, such as, “she cared deeply for people who were suffering.”  We want to change that to present tense, “she cares deeply for people who suffer.”

THEN, LIVE YOUR LIFE SO THAT IT’S CONSISTENT WITH YOUR EULOGY!
